I have not been blogging much, because I was knitting a sweater. I wanted to try out a topdown contiguous sweater. My friend Line told me about the designs of Vera Sanon.
We were planning to attend one of her workshops late June in Germany, but then it got cancelled. Vera Sanon did start a knitalong online for a summer sweater, Natsu, so I decided to follow that one. I started with some Wollmeise pure in Amethyst dark that I had in stash.
Contiguous knitting is relatively new. You start with a small strip at the shoulders, and then you start increasing at both sides. You don't have to knit short rows, or re-attach yarn. Vera Sanon has her own method developed to do so. The most important part in a sweater is a good fit at the shoulders.
Very happy with how the shoulders fit. But I really struggled with the welt around the neckopening. Finally the solution was to pick up 10 stitches at a time with a 2mm dpn. It’s still not perfect, but I leave it like this and can in the end decide if I can live with it.
There is just a noticable difference in dyelots with the Wollmeise… Hope it’s not too bad. ‘In real life’ I thought it was OK, but in picture there is a big difference in color. I could frog my swatch and alternately knit the old color and the new color.
Finished in unther a month. Knitting a sweater withouth having to check a schedule is as fast as knitting a complicated sock. I still have doubts about the finished object. I am not used to wearing such formfitting sweaters. Usually I wear A-line cardigans. I could still frog the bottom part and knit it more A-line.
I am very pleased with the shoulder fit...
… and the lace insert on the 3 quarter sleeves and the bottom of the sweater.
New pictures of my Natsu in action. It’s the perfect sweater for a chilly summer day out (fortunately we did not have many of these, we had a lovely summer so far).
After doubting I decided to leave the sweater like this. I had several very nice comments on my pictures on Ravelry. I love the fit, maybe a bit short, it looks even better with a longer shirt underneath. Maybe next time I would knit bustdarts.
de tentoonstelling Rops-Fabre.
wol te kopen, wie had gedacht dat op 21 juli de wolwinkel open zou zijn?
I was visiting the Rops-Fabre exhibition in Namur. And I really did not plan on buying yarn...
