inspiration - inspiratie

Céline awarded me with the 'arte y pico' award. Céline gave this because she thinks I am a 'conteuse', a storyteller. This is a quality I hadn't discovered yet, so thanks for this Céline ! Awards like this go around in the blogosphere. I have a bit mixed feelings about this : I am honoured, of course, but to whom pass it on ? Of course there are the obvious ones, that everybody reads, but I think I will pick some others...
Ik kreeg onlangs een 'Arte y Pico -award' van Céline voor mijn blog, nu ja onlangs, ik merk dat Céline al in augustus mij de award gaf. Ze noemde mij toen een 'conteuse'. Dat is een kwaliteit die ik nog niet in mezelf ontdekt had, dus bedankt Céline ! Dergelijke awards gaan nogal rond in de blogosfeer, en ik heb er een beetje gemengde gevoelens bij. Ik voel me erg gevleid natuurlijk, maar het 'nomineren' van anderen is niet altijd zo eenvoudig.

The idea is : nominate 5 blogs that inspire you, feed your creativity. That's why I started thinking : what inspires me? To tell the truth, I don't consider myself to be creative. I knit. I play with color. I write about this on my blog. I create, but does this make me creative?
Vooral deze opdracht heeft me wat kopbrekens bezorgd : je moet 5 blogs nomineren die je inspireren, je verrijken, je creativiteit voeden... Toen vroeg ik me af : vanwaar haal ik mijn inspiratie ?
Eigenlijk vind ik mezelf niet zo creatief. Ik brei. Ik speel met kleur. Ik schrijf hierover op mijn blog. Ik creëer, maar maakt me dat creatief ?

To create you need the basics, you need technique and materials. Trying to master new techniques, and using new yarns is for me part of the fun of knitting. Although 'fun' is relative, in the beginning you can really wrestle with a new technique. (first time I did socks! First lace!)
Om iets te creëren heb je een basis nodig, en die basis is : techniek en materiaal. Voor mij is het uitproberen van nieuwe technieken en steeds andere materialen een groot deel van de pret. (alhoewel, pret... ik herinner me het eerste geworstel met sokkennaaldjes, het eerste ramp-kantbreiwerk)

If I want to read about techniques and yarns (and cooking), I like to go to Kim Salazar's blog 'string-or-nothing'. There is nothing fancy about this blog, but the way Kim writes very thoroughly about the process of creating is fascinating. If memory serves me well, she has an engineering background, and that shows. She also hosts the 'wiseneedle' website, a database where you can look-up yarn reviews.
Als je over techniek en materiaal (en koken) wil lezen, dan vind ik Kim Salazar's blog 'string-or-nothing' interessant leesvoer. Dit is geen 'mooie' blog, maar Kim kan wel heel grondig beschrijven hoe ze aan bepaalde projecten werkt. Als ik het me goed herinner heeft ze een ingenieursachtergrond, en dat merk je. Ze beheert ook de 'wiseneedle' website, een database vol met bespreking van garens.

Also in the 'technique' category, but not knitting : I enjoy Veerle's creativity in crocheting jewelry. She choose her technique (crochet), and her material (silk embroidery yarns) and re-invents her FO's every time. In limitation you can see the hand of the master (don't know who said this, but it is true). Once you master a technique, you can go deeper, innovate, and be really creative. This is what Veerle does.
Veerle haakt, en ik bewonder haar creativiteit bij het haken van juweeltjes. Ze heeft haar techniek (vasten haken) en haar materiaal gekozen (zijde cordonnet), en ze vindt telkens nieuwe projecten. In de beperking ken je de meester (dat is een citaat, maar ik weet niet van wie...). Eens je een techniek meester bent, dan kan je verdiepen, daar creatief mee omgaan, in de zin van 'vernieuwend', binnen het gegeven van techniek en materiaal. Dat is wat Veerle doet.

I like color, and of course as for a lot of knitters Kaffe Fassett is a big inspiration. He learned me to see my stash as a painters palette, and 'when in doubt, add another color'. As much as I like to read blogs, I also really appreciate blogs that have a nice lay-out, and beautifull pictures. In this category I would like to mention Saartjes blog. She doesn't post much sadly. Her pictures are absolutely lovely, clear and crisp and colorfull. I wish I could take pictures like that.
Ik hou van kleur, en zoals voor veel breisters was Kaffe Fassett een grote inspiratie. Hij leerde me naar mijn voorraadkast met garens kijken als naar een schilderspalet, en wat bleef hangen :'als je twijfelt, doe er nog een kleur bij'. Ik lees graag blogs, maar ik apprecieer ook heel erg blogs met mooie foto's en een aangename lay-out. In deze categorie wil ik Saartjes blog vermelden. Ze schrijft niet zoveel op haar blog,jammer genoeg. Haar foto's zijn helder afgelijnd, kleurrijk en een plezier om naar te kijken. Ik wou dat ik zo'n foto's kon nemen...

Of course I also read blogs because they are well-written. I enjoy Koen Fillets blog because of his writing style (only in Dutch, and not about knitting, he is a radio maker - he will be very surprised to see his blog mentioned here...)
Ik lees ook graag blogs die goed geschreven zijn. In die categorie vind ik de radiomaker Koen Fillet een aanrader. En nee, dat gaat dus niet over breien... Ik vind zijn schrijfstijl gewoon erg goed, geen woord teveel en to the point...

Apparently you can find inspiration in many places. Hope to have inspired you!
Inspiratie is op vele plaatsen te vinden blijkbaar. Ik hoop dat ik jullie geïnspireerd heb met deze 'blogtoer'.
