Het verhaal van de sjaal achterstevoren.

The tale of the shawl told backwards.

Juli: dit is het eindpunt... hier heeft de sjaal zijn nieuwe bestemming gevonden.

Een lichtgewicht, ondanks de omvang.
Lightweight, despize it's size...

  

Toch wel indrukwekkend, als de sjaal zo ligt te drogen. Ik heb er mijn tafel voor moeten uittrekken met de extra verlengstukken aan de twee kanten om het finale stuk volledig op de tafel te krijgen.

I am impressed by the final size, when it's drying on my table. I had to extend the table to it's maximum to fit the shawl on.

De sjaal komt wat verrimpeld uit zijn badje. Tijd om de aluminium extra lange opspan-ijzers nog eens uit de kast te halen, en 2 meter sjaal uit te spelden om te drogen.
The stole is all wrinckled after bathing... Time to get the blocking wires out of the closet and pin down 2 meters to dry properly.

Nog een hele klus, al die draadjes instoppen.

 Not something I am enjoying, but fortunetaly I have woven in a lot of ends when I was knitting the stole.

Na het breien van de twee grote driehoeken is het nu het moment om twee kleine driehoeken te breien en zo een rechthoek te maken. Klinkt als ingewikkelde wiskunde, maar het is eigenlijk redelijk simpel.
After knitting two big triangles, I am knitting now 2 small triangles to fill out the rectangle. Sounds more complicated then it is, really.

Het begin is er, en ik ben blij met mijn keuzes:

- ik heb gekozen voor kantgaren in plaats van sokkenwol-dikte,

- hoofdzakelijk hetzelfde garen, Bart&Francis silk en wool's, en 1 accentgaren gespikkeld zee-algen van bij Draadkracht,

- geen ingewikkelde ajourpatroontjes, alleen textuur-combinaties van rechts en averechts,

- zachte kleuren, het wit zorgt voor balans. Volgens de beschrijving wordt het een heel grote sjaal, en ik wil niet overweldigd worden door al die strepen!

I am very happy with my start and my choiches:

- lace yarn instead of fingering,

- mostly the same yarn, a wool and silk from Bart&Francis, with an accent of sea-algues silk yarn from Draadkracht,

- no lace, just playing with texture in knit and purl,

- soft colors, the creamy white balances everything out.  Because of the size of the wrap, I do not want to be overpowered by bright colors in bold stripes!

Een eerste proeflapje met verschillende garens en dat werkt niet volledig. Het donker turquoise is te dik. En het donkerblauw lijkt mij te donker. Nog wat verder proberen dus.
A first try with different sorts of yarns and I am not convinced. The dark turquoise is too thick. And the dark blue is too dark.

Halfweg mei: ik had me voorgenomen om geen mystery knitalongs meer te doen. Maar tussen de ingewikkelde sokken door heb ik behoefte aan iets simpels. En ik heb zeker nog genoeg wol in de voorraad. Zou ik of zou ik niet?
May: I made a promise to myself not to engage in any mystery knitalongs. But I really need a simple project inbetween the complicated socks. And I have enough yarn in stash. To start or not to start, that's the question.
