The februari color theme for solidsocks is 'spring'.
En de sok van de maand in de CookieA knitalong is 'stalagmite', een sok met veel kabels, die moeten doen denken aan de bekende druipsteenformaties. In het boek is deze in het lichtblauw gebreid, dat doet de kabels mooi uitkomen.

Voorlopig is er nog geen spoor van lente in onze tuin.

Eén van de eerste bloeiers in de tuin is de magnolia, of tulpenboom.

... en toevallig heb ik nog een streng Wollmeise in de voorraadkast, kleur 'Magnolie'. Maar ik ben een beetje bang dat het garen te gestreept opbreit, en dus niet ideaal is voor kabels.
... and I do have a hank of Wollmeise in the color 'Magnolie' in my stash. But I am a bit afraid that the yarn will knit up stripey, and thus will not be the right choice for this sock.

En dit garen, Bugga! in de kleur 'blue acmon' heeft de perfecte seringenkleur. Blue acmon' blijkt een vlindertje te zijn, de Nederlandse naam heb ik nog niet gevonden. Vlindertjes zijn er eerder in de zomer, maar kom, voor mij is dit toch een lentekleur.
This yarn, Bugga! in the color 'blue acmon' is a very nice lilac color. 'Blue acmon' turns out to be a butterfly, and maybe butterflies are summer creatures, but still, I think this is a perfect spring color.
Maar jammer genoeg werkt het niet voor de kabelsokken. Bugga is een beetje dikker dan standaard sokkenwol. En het patroon heeft maar 2 maten, de kleinste maat begint al met 80 steken. Kabels trekken in, maar toch, 80 steken is heel veel. Deze sok wordt dus veel te groot in dit garen.
Unfortunately this yarn does not work for the cabled socks. Bugga is a heavier weight sockyarn. And the pattern has only 2 sizes, the small starts over 80 stitches. I know cables draw in, but still, 80 stitches is a lot to start a sock. So, this sock will be way too big in this yarn...
Er is nog een oplossing: ik heb nog 1 inhaalsok te doen uit het boek, 'Thelonious', en die staat beschreven in 4 maten.
Plan B : I still have to catch up one last sock in the knitalong schedule, this sock is 'Thelonious', and it comes in 4 sizes.
Ik doe de extra smal over 56 steken, en dat is juist goed.
I am doing the extra small over 56 stitches, and that is just right.
Nu nog een oplossing vinden voor de Stalagmite sokken. Een andere kleur vinden die niet zo 'lente' is? Of nieuwe wol kopen?
I still have to find a solution for the Stalagmite socks though. Knit it in a non-spring color? Buy new yarn?

De stalagmietsokken zijn erg mooi! Dus ik zou me er toch maar aan wagen, als ik jou was ;-) Toch maar nieuw garen kopen?
Als je aan een knitalong mee doet en je wilt uit je eigen stash breien dan is het soms nog een heel gepuzzel. Maar zo te lezen heb je het goed opgelost. Knap van je dat je al die fraaie sokken breit.
