Gloamin Tide

Ik had het me nochtans voorgenomen, geen mysterie Knitalongs meer... Maar toen zei Monique dat er een nieuw ontwerp was van Ysolda. Ze is één van die ontwerpers die ik al lang bewonder, maar waar ik nog maar weinig van gebreid heb. Ik heb zelfs al eens een workshop bij haar gevolgd...

My resolution for this year was: no Mystery Knitalongs. But then Ysolda announced a mystery shawl. She is one of those designers I admire, but I did not knit much of her patterns until now, although I did take workshops with her on how to design your own lace shawl...

Ik weet het zeker, ik wil paars! Maar ga ik voor blauwpaars of roodpaars?
I am in a purple mood. But will I select bluepurple or redpurple?

Het patroon gebruikt drie kleuren die langzaam in elkaar overvloeien, een zogezegde 'fade'. Ik wou iets uit de voorraad gebruiken, dus bij mij is er meer contrast tussen de kleuren, maar ik vind het wel mooi worden....het hangt er natuurlijk van af hoe het patroon verder gaat.
The pattern uses three colors in a gentle fade. I am knitting from stash. I have one variegated and two semisolids. There is more contrast in my colors, but I like it anyway. All depends of course on how the pattern will develop...
 

Deel 1 eindigt met een hele lange 'staart' linksboven. Wat kan daar de bedoeling van zijn? Het ziet er erg raar uit!

Part 1 ends with a long 'tail' on the left upper part. It sure looks very weird!

Deel 2 is lang en puntig. Dat lijkt me totaal niet bij deel 1  passen?

Part 2 is long and pointy, and it does not look like this will fit into part 1?

Maar natuurlijk heeft de ontwerpster een oplossing voorzien. De 'staart' vormt de lange kant van een vierkant, en de sjaal wordt van de buitenkant naar binnen opgevuld door in het rond te breien en op 4 assen te minderen. Een heel aparte constructie! Het zijn lange rijen om te breien, goed om het hoofd leeg te maken, maar toch af en toe steken tellen om te checken dat alles nog klopt.
Ysolda had some very creative solutions up her sleeve when she designed this. The 'tail' is one end of a square.  When the two pointy starts are joined, the square is filled in from outside inwards, knitting in the round, and decreasing on 4 axes. Very clever! It makes for long rows of garter stitch, good to empty my head. You do have to check occassionally and count the stitches to see if you are still on track.

Klaar. Hij lijkt wel kleiner dan bij anderen, ik heb hem dan ook niet ‘agressief’ uitgespeld, gewoon gewassen en laten drogen. Alhoewel, ‘gewoon’ gewassen… Meestal doe ik een breiwerk in een sopje, zeker met handgeverfde wol. Deze heb ik in de wasmachine gedaan met de rest van de wolwas, en nu heb ik witte BH’s met rare paarse vlekken. Gelukkig is dat ook weer weggewassen in de volgende machine.
Ik vond dit een leuke sjaal om te breien, nu nog de juiste manier vinden om die te dragen. ...
Finished! I did not block it agressively, just washed it and pinned it out.I just wish it was a litte bit bigger. I loved the innovative construction, and I am very happy with the colors I picked (always a bit of a guess with a mystery KAL). Now just to find a good way to wear this...
