Not here, but a blogpost anyway. Somehow I did not blog about this project. Sometimes (well, often) I preferr knitting to blogging.
Begin mei kwamen we bijeen voor een 'kick-off' van een 'KAL'. In het Nederlands : de start van een samenbreiproject. Leen wou al lang een kanten sjaal breien, en op Ravelry vroeg ze wie ook zin had. Deze stond al lang op mijn 'wil-ik-ook-nog-ooit-eens-breien'-lijstje. We waren met een 20-tal, en Mercedes heeft er een videootje van gemaakt en op you-tube gezet. Dat doet wel raar, mijn handen zo in close-up. Ik heb oude handen. En ik brei nogal onconventioneel. Dat weet ik, maar nu is het wel heel duidelijk.
Early May we gathered in a café in Antwerp for the kick-off of a KAL. Leen wanted to knit this shawl for some time, and on Ravelry she asked if other knitters cared to join her. I had this shawl in my qeue ever since it was published on Knitty.
Mercedes made a you-tube video, where you can see me knitting. It's weird to watch my hands knitting. I have old hands (well the rest is aged too). I knit weird. I knew that, but now it's obvious.
Zo ziet het begin eruit. Altijd spannend, en je moet er wat 'inkomen'. Maar omdat iedereen hetzelfde begon was het nu heel makkelijk.
This is how the start looks like. Starting a new project is always exciting. Do I do it right? Have I read and understood everything in the pattern? Starting in group makes it a lot easier (although sometimes confusing...)
'Laminaria' is een soort zeewier, en daarom vond ik dit olijfgroenbruin wel een geschikte kleur voor dit project. Het garen kocht ik in 2006, huisruilvakantie in Stockholm. Ik breide toen nog niet veel kant, en ik kocht maar 1 streng van 600m.
'Laminaria' is a kind of seaweed, that's why I thought this olivebrowngreen was a suitable color for this project. I bought the yarn in 2006, home exchanging in Stockholm. I did not knit much lace at the time, so I only bought one 600m hank.
Het voordeel van dit patroon is dat je het kan aanpassen aan het aantal meters die je hebt. De ontwerpster heeft op Ravelry een tabelletje geplaatst waarmee je kan uitrekenen wanneer je de boord moet beginnen/hoeveel meter je hiervoor nodig hebt.
Met 600 meter heb ik een niet al te groot schoudersjaaltje gebreid. Eigenlijk iets te klein, ik wou nu eens een echt grote omslagdoek. Dat zal een volgend project worden?
The big advantage of this pattern is that you can adapt to the yardage you have. The designer put a handy tool on Ravelry to calculate when to start the border. With 600meter I knit a small shawlette. A bit to small to my liking, I'll have to knit a really big shawl some other time I guess...
De kleur is heel moeilijk te fotograferen. Het is niet zo geelbruin als op de vorige foto's, maar ook niet zo donkergroen als deze foto...
It's very hard to take a good picture of the color. It's not so yellowbrown as on the previous pictures, but not as darkgreen as in this picture...
Het was leuk om te breien, maar ik ben niet zo tevreden over het eindproduct. Te klein, en de verkeerde kleur. Breien is toch altijd een beetje afwachten wat het wordt...
This was fun to knit, but I am not entirely happy with the finished object. It's too small, and I am not sure if I like the color either....maybe a better result next time...
