Cadeautjes voor babies - baby gifts

Vroeger breide ik meestal een mutsje als babycadeautje, maar tegenwoordig wordt het geregeld een knuffel van Annita,(zij maakt het).
I always used to knit a hat as a baby gift, but nowadays I like to knit a cuddly toy from 'zij maakt het'.

In 2010 breide ik het eerste aapje. Jacobus verhuisde naar Marseille, en 3.5 jaar later wordt daar nog steeds goed voor hem gezorgd.
I have knit the first monkey in 2010. Jacobus moved to Marseille, and 3.5 years later, is still wel-loved...

Ik vind  het Noro-garen met zijn vrolijke kleuren ideaal om zo'n knuffeltje te breien.
I really like Noro Kureyon yarn with its bright colors to knit a toy.

Dit is Karel het konijn, en die woont nu bij baby Sam.
This is Karel the rabbit. He lives with baby Sam now.

En er bestaat ook een boek, waar zowel Jacobus als Karel in voorkomen.
There is also a children's book, starring Jacobus and Karel.

En dit is de start van een iets vreemder beest, met veel punten op zijn kop. Hij heet Joris, en is net geen draakje (want hij heeft geen vleugels).
And this is the start of a next creature, with a 'spikey' head. His name is Joris. He could be a dragon, if he would grow wings.

Het hoofd is met Noro gebreid, de rest met turquoise handgesponnen, die ik cadeau kreeg van Sokkenmuis. Voor Joris op reis vertrekt moet hij eerst nog in bad.
The head is knit with Noro, and the body with some lovely turquoise handspun, that I got as a gift. Before Joris starts his travels, he first had a bath...

 En nu woont Joris bij baby Johann in Duitsland.

And now Joris lives with baby Johann in Germany. 

omslagdoeken in 13 - shawls in 13

Vorig jaar heb ik geen enkele kanten sjaal gebreid. En ik heb nochthans veel kantgaren in mijn kast liggen. Als ik op vakantie ga is zo'n streng een ideaal klein souveniertje.
Last year I did not knit one single lace shawl. I do have a lot of laceyarn, waiting to be knit, most of them souvenirs from a holiday or knitting trip.

 Met het grijze weer buiten kriebelt het om iets in vrolijke zomerse kleurtjes te breien. Ik heb nog 2 strengen Madelinetosh merino light, een  kadootje van Jane in Texas. Links de kleur 'afternoon', rechts 'grapefruit'.
It's so dark and grey outside, and I feel the urge to knit something in cheery, summery colors. I have these 2 hanks of Madelinetosh merino light, on the left the color 'afternoon', on the right 'grapefruit'.

Na een eerste proefje ben ik niet zo overtuigd dat 'afternoon' de juiste kleur is voor dit patroon, er moet wat meer contrast zijn tussen de kleuren.
After knitting a swatch I am not convinced about the color combo, I need more contrast.

Dan maar een beetje handgesponnen erbij nemen?
Maybe if I add some of this handspun?

Dat ziet er al veeel beter uit. Ik heb nog veel andere omslagdoeken in gedachten, maar voorlopig wordt dit mijn favoriete project voor de komende weken. Het patroontje vind je op Ravelry onder de naam Cornflower shawl.

streepjes - stripes

Omdat ik alle Cookie sokken uit het boek gebreid heb kwam ik in aanmerking voor een prijs. En zie wat in de bus viel - 2 strengen handgesponnen wol. Breien met handgesponnen is voor mij een echte tractatie. Na mijn ervaring met de angora en de allergie van de Ijzeren Man heb ik nog eens beseft dat spinnen en losvliegende vezels hier in huis echt geen goed idee zouden zijn... maar ermee breien kan wel nog.

Because I have knit all Cookie socks from the book I have won 2 hanks of handspun yarn. Knitting with handspun is a real treat for me. After the bad reaction to the angora yarn by my Iron Man I realised one again that spinning would not be a good hobby in this household... but knitting with handspun is still possible (just no angora).

 Met de rechtse streng en een rest Malabrigo breide ik deze armwarmers. Ze zijn voor een collega die weggaat, en onlangs kwam ze op 't werk met een poncho aan, maar wel koude armen.
Ze is een kleurrijke figuur, opvallende armwarmers passen echt wel bij haar. En het is zeker iemand die handgesponnen-handgebreid waardeert...

With the hank on the right I have knit these armwarmers for a collegue who is leaving us. She is a colorfull person, so funky handspun-handknit mitts are the perfect gift for her.

 En ik had nog garen over, dus heb ik nog een gestreepte baret erbij gebreid.

And I had some yarn leftover, enough to do a matching beret.

Voor mij valt de baret wat groot uit, maar zij heeft een dikke bos krullen, dus dat komt wel goed...

The beret is a bit too big for me, but she has a big head with curly hair, so it will be perfect for her...
